How to Make Lilac Syrup + The Prettiest Spring Botanical Mocktail
Every spring, lilac bushes explode into bloom… and most people simply admire them from a distance.
But if you have lilacs growing in your yard, you might be walking past one of the prettiest edible ingredients of the season.
Yes—lilacs are edible, and they make a beautifully fragrant homemade floral syrup that can be used in spring drinks, botanical mocktails, sparkling sodas, tea blends, and other edible lilac recipes.
If you love garden-to-glass drinks, this one is going to become a favorite.
This botanical spring mocktail combines homemade lilac syrup with sparkling elderflower lemonade for a refreshing floral drink that feels straight out of a boutique café—but made right at home.
Are Lilacs Edible?
Yes—common lilac blossoms (Syringa vulgaris) are edible and have long been used in floral syrups, teas, jellies, and decorative culinary recipes.
Lilacs have a soft floral aroma and delicate flavor that works beautifully in spring botanical drinks and floral mocktails.
A few notes:
- Harvest only from unsprayed plants
- Use only the blossoms (remove stems/green bits)
- Rinse gently before using
If you grow lilacs, this is one of the easiest edible flower recipes to try.
